Rhodes is a fantastic Island for touring in a hire car, there really is a lot to explore - remember to bring your driving licence. One days hire is enough to do the East Coast, taking in Rhodes Town and Lindos.

If you want to see the whole island, 2 days car hire should be enough.

As with any vehicle rental overseas, you need to be sure you're comfortable with both the price and the small print.

We've used Marathon and Auto Rhodes (formerly Zeus) several times here, without any negative issues. For completeness we've included all the companies known to have offices here.

It usually pays to book in advance for two reasons; demand usually exceeds supply in the high season, we've known people disappointed or having to hire a car more expensive than their needs, but also it's usually much cheaper when you book well in advance.

You'll be provided with a map of the island, and petrol stations are plentiful. (The nearest to here is in Lardos, so you can easily refill just before you return the car)

Driving here is quite good when compared with countries, but do remember to drive on the right hand side of the road. You may choose to avoid Wednesdays and Saturdays though if you'd rather avoid flight/changover days when there are lots of transfer coaches on the road.
